Napoleon Hill’s Carnegie Secret Revealed!

People are searching for the Carnegie Secret so intensely that they’re willing to pay good money for it.  But, before they do… they should know something about the secret:  it cannot be purchased for money… and, anyone who tries to sell it for a monetary price is a fraud.  Let me explain.  If Napoleon Hill wanted you to know what the secret was, don’t you think he would have told you in Think & Grow Rich?  If he wanted to make money off of the secret don’t you think he would have done so in his lifetime?  Or, perhaps his foundation might have done so in the years after his death?

I thought so.

Other than being a great literary device to ensure you read the entire book with an open mind, the truth is that NO ONE can tell you what the secret is… it cannot be given away or sold.

Do you want to know why?

To help me explain, I’d like to quote several paragraphs from Think & Grow Rich in which Napoleon Hill gives his most revealing clues as to what the secret is:

A peculiar thing about this secret is that those who acquire and use it find themselves literally swept on to success. However, as is often pointed out in this book, there is no such thing as something for nothing. The secret cannot be had without paying a price, although the price is far less than its value.

Another peculiarity is that the secret cannot be given away and it cannot be purchased for money. Unless you are intentionally searching for the secret, you cannot have it at any price. That is because the secret comes in two parts, and in order for you to get it, one of those parts must already be in your possession.

I have never known anyone who was inspired to use the Carnegie secret who did not achieve noteworthy success. On the other hand, I have never known any person to distinguish themself, or to accumulate riches of any consequence, without possession of the secret. From these two facts I draw the conclusion that the secret is more important for self-determination than anything you receive through what is popularly known as “education”.

As a final word of preparation, may I offer one brief suggestion that could provide a clue how the Carnegie secret might be recognized? It is this: achievement, and all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea. If you are ready for the secret, you already possess one-half of it. Therefore, you will recognize the other half the moment it reaches your mind.

So, the first half of the secret is being ready to receive it… which opens your mind to possibilities.  It cannot be given away, bought, or sold… yet, it comes with a price… the price of experience.  (Some people pay for this experience with their lives!)  The secret is more important for self-determination and it begins with an idea… your DESTINY.  So, what is the second half of the secret?

It’s your FREEWILL…

It’s your God-given, inalienable right, as a human being, to control and focus your thoughts on whatever you choose.  It is your ability to choose YOUR OWN purpose in life… your mission…  It’s the personal power within you to make your own decisions and to stand by them…

It’s DEFINITENESS OF PURPOSE… your DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE!

It answers the ultimate questions: “Who am I”, “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose in life?”  You are here because and your purpose in life is WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE IT TO BE!  Your secret is a CHOICE that only you can make!  That is why Napoleon Hill wouldn’t tell you what the secret is and that’s why nobody else can tell you what it is.

YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY FOR YOURSELF!

Remember Napoleon Hill saying in his book that if you are ready for the secret you already possess half of it?  The other half of the secret is your FREEWILL.  Remember Napoleon Hill saying that he’s never known anyone who applied the secret who didn’t become successful?  That’s because over 98% of the population don’t have a clue as to what they want in life… the remaining 2% that do have a clue are busy making it happen and, through persistence, will eventually succeed!

Remember Napoleon Hill saying that EVERYONE who knew the secret was literally swept away to success and riches?  When you know your own secret… many doors of opportunity will open for you and your path will become clear.

Remember Napoleon Hill saying that you can either CHOOSE to be rich or CHOOSE to be poor? He was right!

If you’re still not convinced that the secret is your freewill, I’ll now quote the paragraphs in which Napoleon Hill mentions it directly… they are found in the last chapter of Think & Grow Rich:

You have absolute control over only one thing, and that is your thoughts. This is the most significant and inspiring of all facts known to humans. It reflects our divine nature. This ability to control your thoughts is the sole means by which you may control your own destiny. If you fail to control your own mind, you may be sure you will control nothing else. Your mind is your spiritual estate. Protect and use it with care to which divine royalty is entitled. You were given your willpower for this purpose.

Mind control is the result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you. There is no halfway compromise. The most practical method for controlling your mind is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose backed by a definite plan. Study the records of those who achieve noteworthy success, and you will see that they have control over their own minds, and that they exercise that control and direct it toward the attainment of definite objectives. Without this control, success is not possible.

Previously you may have had a logical excuse for not having forced life to come through with whatever you asked. That alibi is now obsolete because you are in possession of the Master Key that unlocks the door to life’s riches.

The Master Key is intangible, but it is powerful. It is the privilege of creating, in your own mind, a burning desire for a definite form of riches. There is no penalty for the use of the key, but there is a price you must pay if you do not use it. The price is failure. There is a reward of stupendous proportions if you put the key to use. It is the satisfaction that will come to you when you conquer self and force life to pay whatever is asked.

Well said, sir. I like your explanation about the “secret”. In a nutshell, have a goal and never give up on it until you achieve it. That’s the two part system. And you’re right, most of us don’t know what we want. We might have goals but they are wavering, not definite. They change like the direction of the wind. I am as guilty as the next guy. But like Dan Kennedy said in a recent GKIC blog post, “Goal-setting’s fine and useful, but what good is it if you are willing to give up on or compromise the goals you set? The real key to success is ‘adamant refusal.'” I agree. But if you do have a dream you’re halfway there. And you should be grateful, as Ryan Blair says. “Most people don’t even have dream.” Cheers. Thanks for your comment, Marc. Yes, success in anything takes commitment and it will take as much work as you’re willing and able to put into it. A quote that I’ve been saying over to myself lately is, “All it takes is all you’ve got.” I find that it helps me power through my daily tasks, especially with my writing. It’s a work ethic that I wrote about in my second book, Awaken the Balls Within. If you’ve read my books I’d love to hear what you think of them. Find me on Twitter or send me an email.

After having read several times think and grow rich and have already take the full possesion of my own minds through a long period of deep meditations i had discover the secret and will share it to you but you must be ready to receive it.Taking full possesion of one’s own mind is a gift from THE CREATOR.The secret is the discovery of INFINITE INTELLIGENCE by which any human beings can get an opportunity to use all his/her faculty in order to translate the desire into its physical equivalent.Without an opportunity from the DIVINE PROVIDENCE no one can get riches nor any kind of success..

I believe you are absolutely correct! Wikipedia incorrectly states the Secret was the Golden Rule.

The secret to me is the burning of it upon the subconscious mind by 24/7 conscious possession. Thus the total belief that you are already in fact what you once desired. Each of those that ask it shall be given to, and those that receive that which they ask shall do so according to their faith.

The [two-part] secret in which Napoleon Hill was referring to ( at least 100 times in his book, in my opinion) is firstly, ‘know exactly what is that you want in life’ if you are already in possession of this then you will find the second part of the key ‘the will to do whatever it takes to achieve it’. May I just say, anyone who has read think and grow rich, there are some (in my opinion) excellent elaborations on the book by the late Earl Nightingale and Bob Proctor. Earl’s definition of success is still the best definition I’ve ever heard: “success is the PROGRESSIVE realisation of a WORTHY ideal”.

Do you want to know what the secret is? Well, you can’t, it’s a secret.

I think the best example in his book of the usage of the Master Key is the story about Henry Ford wanted to build a one block motor. He was so sure he would get it he did not back down a inch its like he already knew that the engine will come to life. The word I am looking for is faith,

Can someone explain how you can rectify the idea of the secret or that thoughts control reality with some of the following points

Millions of people live in large cities and they all experience the same whether even though they are all thinking and feeling different things

Therefore our weather our environments our ecosystem our communities are certainly not created by our thoughts

Likewise natural disasters strike large regions of the Earth and often times kill thousands of people yet obviously all these people are not thinking the same thing

Further look at the history of Earth plagues have move through Epix of human history and obviously this has nothing to do with the thoughts people were having as they were very widespread

Further look at a plane crash there’s no way that all the people on the plane or thinking the same thing. And there are many times where people are afraid that a plane will crash or are afraid of flying and they never get hurt in any sort of plane crash

The same thing can be said for lots of fears we have we might be afraid of all sorts of things that never actually come to fruition

We’re physicochemical organisms on an incredibly complex environments. Our nervous systems and our whole physiology are in constant flux. There is no way to say that our thoughts create our reality because we’re all contingent on many external factors

Obviously each of us experiences the world through our own physiology but physiology is a complex phenomenon that is not under any central control

Finally I do agree that it’s good to know what you want in life and to work hard to make it happen but again as the above demonstrates these things are not always in our control and we live out our lives contingent on many external factors that have nothing to do with our thoughts

Again and how our thoughts are complex neurochemical happening this that can’t be controlled but can only be guided from what we learn. That is for my past experience and from our present circumstances

  13. chris P

This makes no sense how do you explain when thousands of people who are all having different thoughts experience the same tragedies such as earthquakes tsunamis plagues plane crashes

Not to mention weather phenomena which millions of people in the same region experienced the same whether even though they’re all having different thoughts

You can add to this many positive things such as when the hometown team wins the World Series millions of people could have different thoughts about this but yet they all experience the same outcome

The same thing with our success and landing on the moon or eradicating diseases like polio and achieving great infrastructure and new technologies

I guess I’m making the basic point that people share a reality regardless of their personal thoughts and feelings and to try to say that everything that happens to you is a result of your thoughts makes no sense because just look at the weather everyone experiences sunshine and rain and only little kids think it’s cuz of what they’re feeling and that is of course erroneous

Anyway it is good to work hard to achieving your goals that is some good common sense but that doesn’t mean your thoughts control reality

The Carnegie secret is simple… It is this: Imagination.
